Awards and recognition

[edit]

Hello @Dl2000, thank you for your edits on the page. Just wanted to let you know that the information about Awards and recognition is actually present in the citation number 8 itself. Instead of mentioning the same reference multiple times, I've just put it once at the end of the list. Hope it helps. Kindly Regards. DesiBoy101 (talk) 19:12, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Women in Green/20-Minute Article Assessment

[edit]

I'm doing a 20-Minute Article Assessment per DesiBoy101's request at Wikiproject Women in Green. Assessing on the six Good article criteria I wouldn't say at this point the article is GA quality, but I'm sure it could be in future, here are some notes to follow Mujinga (talk) 09:17, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Article is stable and relatively focused, although I'm not convinced the subsections are necessary, and awards and recognition could be a full section. As regards broadness, the article feels a bit scattershot right now so it's hard to say if it meets broadness requirements.
  • Prose is not GA standard at the moment, eg "Pochkhanawala was fascinated with the intimate boundaries of space which she could use through the time she existed in. " / "Pochkhanawala had created stage design for five plays" / "Pilloo had married Rattan Pochkhanawala and had one child, Meher". I'd advise asking the good folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors for an edit, after working on the article some more first. A few other prose-related things:
Pochkhanawala is best remembered - best remembered by who?
It is assumed to - it is assumed by who?
However - normally not needed in encyclopedic writing
The lead should summarise what is below in the article, and therefore most of the time doesn't need citations in it becuase all the info is below. "was among the first few women sculptors in India" is a big claim and also closeparaphrasing of the source. "Her pieces were inspired by nature or often took the form of human figures" whilst these things are mentioned below to some degree, I wouldn't say this sentence summarises what it below" and so on
  • Images - fine, both taken from a book hosted at commons
  • Verifiability
I don't think you can use Sothebys and Christies entries to say much more than a piece of art was sold or what is was called. The blurbs are promotional and therefore can't be used to back for example "Pochkhanawala was fascinated with the intimate boundaries of space which she could use through the time she existed in. Her arrangement of motifs, the use of negative space around them and the occasional violent distortions within the abstract mode she worked with, render her sculptures with powerful dynamism even today". Indeed most of this is plaigirised from a quotation in the blurb as well, so I've removed it.
    Books should have page numbers.
"In 1951, Pochkhanawala made her first visit to Europe. She was on an assignment to create posters and advertisement displays for the national airline, Air India. This tour gave her an opportunity to visit major museums in the region, where she was amazed by the major works of modern sculptors." -what is this cited to?
  • Overall - hope this helps and good luck with the article! Maybe look over some good articles about artists for style tips. Mujinga (talk) 09:36, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Mujinga for taking the time to review this and sharing your detailed insights. It was certainly helpful and gave me an idea of how the good article review works. Will definitely these points into consideration for this and any future articles that I work with for nomination. Regards - DesiBoy101 (talk) 16:09, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
